The Eagle Radio Group is a friendly group of Radio Amateurs, Short Wave Listeners and people who are just simply interested in radio. The group is run on a strictly informal social basis, there is no joining fee, subs or committee other than for administrative reasons, a Chairman, Secretary and Training Officer.

The group meets in the Eagle Hotel Victoria Road, Mablethorpe on every second Tuesday of the month at 8pm. The proprietors of the hotel provide us with a private room and wives and girlfriends are always welcome. There is generally more than one lady present at the meetings so please bring your partner along.

At most meetings we have a short talk by a guest speaker and there is a programme of talks arranged for the year. This year for the first time we activated a Special Event Station. GB0ERG (Eagle Radio Group) at the Mablethorpe Show on the 14th July. 100 contacts were made in 27 different countries. Other outdoor activities are planned throughout the year. The group also runs a foundation course for the new M3 licence for anyone that may be interested.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact the secretary or join the 2 Metre FM net on Sundays at 6pm (18:00hrs) - 145.500/145.450 Mhz.

Royal visit to GB0ERG

On 17th February 2003 the Eagle Radio Group took part in the Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea 50th anniversary commemorative exhibition at the Dunes Family Entertainment Centre. The exhibition was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh who spent some time talking to group members on their exhibition stand. They explained to him that in 1953 one of the first victims of the flood was the coastal radio station (Humber Radio), and quick-thinking coastal radio amateurs who had not been hit by the flood water took over monitoring the emergency frequencies; they handled the distress traffic until a temporary station was set up near Louth and put on air. The Duke was presented with our Special Event QSL card by Debbie (M3DRP).   The group worked almost 200 stations using the special event callsign GB0ERG.

Charles (G0CBM) showing a visitor round GB0ERG. The station was mainly used on 40 metres and worked extremely well.

The stand was very busy, and members of the public enjoyed listening to the stations being worked.  There was also a computerised display about amateur radio.
